Redvision and Chroma Vision deliver rugged, cyber-secure 5G and cloud CCTV solution for Sussex councils

Redvision, in partnership with leading systems integrator Chroma Vision, has delivered a robust and fully cloud-based CCTV upgrade across 17 Sussex councils. The innovative solution utilises secure 5G transmission, rugged local recording, and cloud-based management to transform a once-disparate surveillance network into a streamlined, cyber-resilient system.

The Challenge

The public space CCTV infrastructure across Sussex was fragmented, with each of the 17 local authorities using different systems while attempting to route footage to Sussex Police. This resulted in inconsistent image quality, limited interoperability, and operational inefficiencies.

The high cost of maintaining fibre optic networks posed an ongoing challenge. Additionally, councils sought to phase out legacy server rooms in favour of a modern, cloud-based solution that would offer encrypted access for authorised personnel only.

The Solution

Redvision worked alongside Chroma Vision, a long-established integrator with deep expertise in public space security, to design and implement a scalable and cost-effective solution.

Chroma Vision—founded in 2001 with a strong focus on technical excellence and customer service—played a key role in deploying over 350 Redvision Hubs and NVRs, providing local recording and seamless integration with RedVu, Redvision’s cloud-based Central Management System (CMS).

The result is a fully 5G and cloud-enabled system, where each of the ~650 HD digital cameras connects securely to the network. The system allows encrypted user-specific access (with over 500 active users), enabling councils and police to monitor the right areas with confidence.

To minimise cloud storage costs, only data streams are managed in the cloud while recorded footage is kept locally. Hosting on Microsoft Azure ensures enterprise-grade cybersecurity, with Redvision working directly with council IT teams to meet all compliance and security standards. The platform also provides a clear upgrade path to Digifort, Redvision’s powerful Enterprise Video Management System.

The Result

Sussex councils now benefit from a consistent, HD-quality surveillance network with vastly reduced infrastructure costs. Fibre dependency has been significantly cut, and with over 650 cameras deployed, the councils are better equipped to support public safety initiatives.

The success of the project has been widely praised by all stakeholders.

“From an installation perspective, this was one of the most seamless transitions we've worked on. Redvision’s hardware and cloud integration tools meant we could deliver a complex, multi-site rollout with clarity and confidence. Feedback from councils has been overwhelmingly positive.”
– James McLean, Area Manager, Chroma Vision

“This project demonstrates exactly what’s possible when strong engineering partnerships come together. We’ve delivered a rugged, cyber-secure solution that not only meets today’s needs, but is built to scale and evolve as Sussex’s public space strategy grows.”
– Will Hucker, Engineering Director, Redvision
